I’m Agata Sierra, born in Bogotá, Colombia on a Friday in 1986. Deeply rooted in my family’s heritage, my approach draws on images of nature, archetypal symbols, and contrasting dualities. These elements materialized in a long journey of resilience and reconstruction following an accident that nearly cost me the use of my right hand and arm. The resulting artworks weave connections between cultural transmission and my personal realm. The act of Repairing, at the heart of my practice, embodies the preservation and transformation of memory, creating narratives that extend beyond mere aesthetic restitution; it is both tangible and symbolic.

Weaving a dialogue between reality and the imaginary, the seen and unseen, the universal and the intimate, my meticulous process of working with color and its interplay with light and the medium grants me the freedom to utilize techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, and embroidery. This exploration of layers, juxtapositions, textures, and volumes evolves into an allegorical composition reflecting my inner state.

In this artistic endeavor, I aim to paint a vivid picture of my sensations through a transcription of chromatic vibrations, bringing Colors to Life. By employing gestures such as scribbling, spilling, tearing, and crafting new harmony with reflective actions like gluing, embroidering, and mending, I invite the viewer into a deep dive into my artistic realm. This immersive experience is filled with a kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and symbols that beckon the viewer to look closer, compelling them to fully engage with the artwork.

I would frame this differently: My instagram account can neither compete nor replace design criticism. I am not reducing something large to something small, I am creating something small where there was nothing before. Something small is better than nothing.
